Our Mision

To contribute to the improvement and impact of the
biological sciences in Chile

For this we have established the following goals:
To maintain a vigorous, interactive team with first rate research programs in biological sciences.

Although most studies indicate that the biological research in Chile is highly competitive, they also show that it has remained rather stagnant. Our goal is designed to create a fertile atmosphere and active collaborations among team researchers that will serve as an instrument to attract young investigators and thus help Chilean science recuperate its impulse.

To improve connections with top international science.

The purpose is to enrich the Chilean scientific and technological community through integration with their counterparts in developed countries. The Institute foresees a great opportunity to tap the expertise and connections of foreign as well as Chilean scientists abroad, which is not being used today.

To promote advanced training of young researchers in biological sciences.

Chilean science is aging. We hope to help in renewing the country's scientific staff, generating a more exciting and less isolated environment that could attract an increasing number of young talented students into research.

To link our Biological sciences with the Chilean Productive Sector and International Biotechnology.
Chilean economy is based on products of biological origin and our economy urgently needs to increase their added value. Our aim is to increase the quantity and quality of high level biological research in Chile and to connect the molecular genetics and cell biology revolution to the health, environmental and productivity problems of the country, and thus help to bridge the dramatic gap between biologists and the Chilean industrial sector.

To increase awareness of the value of science and public technology in Chilean society.

We see a great need in the dissemination of basic biological knowledge and its applications among Chilean industrialists and the lay public in an attractive manner. We trust that these activities will be a way to bring them closer to modern science, and to sensitize them to their uses and benefits.

In this regard, it is important to note that members of the team have been active advisers, collaborators and also entrepreneurs in the biotechnology industry in Chile and abroad. Some of them sit on the board of biotechnology companies in USA, and act as advisors for several Chilean companies. As a group the members have obtained more than 50 international and national patents.
